Mount Cashel survivors want to tell their stories

A survivor of Canada's worst child abuse scandal is calling for a public inquiry into the horrors faced by him and other residents of the Mount Cashel orphanage in Newfoundland and all other Christian Brothers organizations. The St. Johns man wants a truth commission similar to the one that Natives received for there schooling problems. He wants it so that him and other survivors can tell their stories of terror. He believes that we should follow the lead of Ireland who also spoke out against the Christian Brothers association.

Christian Brothers are one of the worst run schools I have ever heard of. These schools and anyone involved should have to give reparations to the people who had to suffer through these terrible events. I just hope they are given their truth commission.

Police Rescue 15 year old prostitute

Police rescued a 15 year old girl who was forced into prostitution in Toronto. She was working while her alleged pimp was in trouble with the law. Police arrested a Richmondhill resident who was apparently helping with the prostitution ring. The victim was working from this address. This lead led police to search two more condos and evidence was found that the girl had been working out of these condos. They found adds online and in the newspaper that was trying to bring girls into prostitution. Renan Gazzali Esahak, 40, is being charged with many offenses including running a bawdy house. This is the second 15 year old girl rescued from the prostitution ring in the past week.

This is ridiculous. Prostitution is illegal and to force a 15 year old girl to work as a prostitute is terrible. The man who is being charged will hopefully get a long jail sentence. I also hope that police get rid of this terrible ring.

Search for Tori resumes

The search for Tori Stafford continued even though she was presumed dead. Two suspects have already been charged with abducting and killing the 8 year old girl. Police believed she was moved 90 kilometers from where she was originally abducted by the two suspects. Even though two suspects have been arrested the story still strikes fear into people. Residents have been talking and discussing the topic a lot. Mothers of young girls are very scared because they know this could have been them.

This is one of the most terrible stories I have ever read. Why would someone want to do something like this what is going through there heads. These suspects need to be put away for a long time and I hope they get what they deserve in jail.

Women Smokers At Greater Risk

According to recent studies women have more chance of contracting a lung disease then men. A study focusing on chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) a Harvard Study topic showed that women experience a lower function of the lung when they are exposed to a small amount of smoke compared to males. There's an important public health message here," says senior author Dr. Dawn DeMeo, assistant professor of medicine at Harvard. He went on to say that women believe a few cigarettes per day has no affect on them. The test was taken on women who had COPD and it showed that they were frequently affected by smoking. At a rate that was much higher than male smokers.

I think this study should open many women's eyes. This shows them that not only is smoking bad for you but also they have a higher chance of death then their male counterparts. This study was not required because people should no the risk of smoking from the start.

Man discovered 18 years later

Wanted
Horace Tazman HEADLEY
22/M
A First Degree Murder Warrant hs been issued for the arrest of Mr. Headley.

Occurrence #59219/91

Mr. Headley was married and unemployed at the time of incident. He was originally from Jamaica but in Canada as a Landed Immigrant

A man wanted for a 1991 murder of a Scarbrough man was arrested in Jamica and returned to Toronto to be tried. Horace Tazman Headley, 40, is being charged of first degree murder of Stanley Shearer. Shearer was shot and killed 18 years ago outside of his music studio. Two men involved in the murder were previously caught and charged with similar crimes. Headley was arrested by the Jamaican police and held for the Canadian police. Around 6 pm in 1991 three man showed up at DJ Stanley Shearer studio. Shearer was taken out back and was killed by Headley while his two colleagues kept watch outside.

I am glad that the police stuck with this case and eventually found this man who clearly deserved what he got. Headely thought he could escape but you can't get away with stuff like that. This case shows that you can never run away from your problems especially if your problem lands you in jail

Convicted USA spy released

An Iranian-American was released today after being sentenced to 8 years for spying in Iran for Washington. She was released after an appeal reduced the sentence. Saleh Nikbakht one of the lawyers who defended Roxana Saberi released a statement explaining how Saberi, who has been held in an Iranian prison since January was released after not even serving one eight of her sentence. Saberi had lived in Iran since 2003, she worked as a journalist for the BBC. She was initially caught for purchasing a bottle of wine (illegal in Iran). They revoked her press card and then she was sent to prison for spying for Washington.

This is interesting because I would think the USA would have spies but i do not think they would be caught that often. Saberi was foolish to do something illegal to draw attention to herself. The USA should think before they hire spies.

Liberal MP in Nanny trouble

Ascending Liberal MP Ruby Dhalla was caught is caught in a nanny trap. Two nannies who were hired by her to care for her mother say that they were illegally employed and miss treated by Dhalla. The nannies also said how Dhalla illegally seized their passports and other belongings and that they had to do many non nanny jobs such as washing cars. Magdalene Gordo, 31, and Richelyn Tongson, 37, say that they were hired to work for Dhalla and then paid 250 a week while working 12-16 hour days. Dhalla responded by saying that she was "shocked" by any talk of mistreating nannies."Anyone who has ever worked in our home has been treated with a lot of love, with a lot of care and compassion and money has never, ever been withheld from anyone," Dhalla told the Star in an interview.

I think this is just a case of nannies trying to steal away someone's money just because she is a government official. This case is a big phony and should be exploited in court

Man survives Niagra Falls plunge

Konstantine Shatalov a photographer who was snapping pictures of the falls saw something falling from the falls. He thought it might be a man, but he did not believe it he just thought he was dreaming. The man appeared to be in his mid-30's, witnesses said he looked like he was diving. The man was discovered at the bottom of the falls, he was still alive. The witnesses tried to help him but he would not come out even though he was severly injured and bleeding. He was rescued 40 minutes later and he was still alive. Rescuers said it looked he was trying to commit suicide because he would not come to shore and kept swimming into the current (They rescued him in the end). The man became the third person to survive a plunge from the falls, which is illegal. No charges have been laid down yet.

This is just really stupid, jumping from the falls. Why would someone want to commit suicide in the first place. Why would you jump from one of the most beautiful sites in the world to do something as terrible as committing suicide. Was he trying to make everyone else feel bad for him or what.

Police Indentify Body from '67

Oscar Jones studied the face on TV and recognized his brother, Eric. Eric disappeared 60 years ago. The body could not be searched for clues because it had decomposed because he had been left outside naked in the woods. Investigators linked the murder to a similar one that happened a year later (1968) when a 17 year old boy named Richard "Dickie" Hovey was left naked in the same way Jones was. The police are following what little clues they have and it led to another incident. Two men were picked up around the same place and sexually harassed and then stabbed to death. The same incident happened to another man, but this one was different. He lived and pointed out his murderer, James Greenidge. Greenidge was convicted of manslaughter and attempted murder. He was released from jail in 1981. Shortly after he killed a Vancouver women, he is currently serving a life sentence in a BC prison.

This man is just really sick and disgusting. He deserves life in prison for the gross and unforgivable things he has done. I am glad the police got him

Brown faces the music

Chris Brown was slapped with two felony charges yesterday for allegedly beating his girlfriend Rihanna. The 19 year old R and B star is being charged with "assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury" and making "criminal threats. Brown and Rihanna were riding in a car driven by Brown, when he became angered with her. He hit her numerous times in the face causing so major injuries.

This is brutal. At what point was it okay to beat a women, no matter how much she angered him. This is common sense just cause you are frustrated with someone does not mean you just smack them, women or not.

Rengel was threatened before being killed

Stefanie Rengel was warned before she was slain. She told her mother that a 17 year old boy came to their house and said his girlfriend sent him to kill her. Two months later Rengel a grade 9 student was lured from her home and stabbed six times and left to die just a few feet awar from her home. The girlfriend, M.T., 17 pleaded not guilty to first degree murder yesterday. The boyfriend, D.B., now 19 will be on trial later this year. Patracia Hung, Stefanie's mom, who was tried in the case said her daughter called her on October 20, 2007 to describe the threat. According to the prosecutor MT applied great pressure to DB to kill Rengel because she was very jealous. "Stefanie Rengel was savagely murdered for no other reason than that (M.T.) had decided it was time for her to die," Flumerfelt, the prosecutor told the jury. The reason for MT jealousy was because DB and Stefanie were together when she was 12 and he was 15. For this reason she was murdered.

This is terrible, just because someone is better at something than you does not mean you can just kill them. MT is just a jealous person because she could not get DB first. Both of these people should go to jail for a long time because of their ridiculous actions.

Crooked Cops investigated

Over 100 of New York's finest are being investigated for associatating with criminals. Reports are that the cops were doing everything from boozing to pulling off armed robberies with some of New York's notorious criminals. It was even thought that these crooked cops were pulling off drug deals with low life drug dealers. "It is one of the big problems the Police Department faces," said a source familiar with the NYPD's hard-charging efforts to root out wrongdoers. In one case it was noted that Yaniris Balbuena, a 31 year old transit cop was charged with laundering 250,000 dollars to her heroin trafficking husband. Balbeuna once told her boyfriend to give up this terrible way of living and live the clean life but the boyfriend enjoyed his illegal luxurious life. The worse case facing the crooked cops is that of Jorge Arbaje-Diaz. Diaz had been on the force for three years and over that time he commited 100 armed robberies for drug-traffickers.

In my opinion this is terrible, I mean how are you supposed to trust these cops with anything if they are the same as the men they swore to take down. The NYPD should really crack down on stuff like this and maybe even do more background checks and make sure you can trust them. I mean the men who are supposed to protect us should be the cleanest and most loyal men out there.

Mississauga man not guilty

Mississauga man was deemed not guilty of attemped murder. The man allegedly tried to kill his wife with a knife. The jury found him not guilty even though his wife said her husband stabbed her numerous times. The man testified that her injuries were unintentional, his wife countered by saying that he stabbed her. She claims that she tried to stop him from killing himself with the knife. The man was also on trial for aggrevated assault on his 7 year old daughter, he says he had no memory. I guess these days that is good enough to be considered not guilty.

I am not sure how this man is not headed to jail. His arguments for the assaults were terrible. I stabbed her but it was not intentional and i do not remember. Are you kidding me that is the worst defense tactic i have ever heard, how could an honest jury believe that. The family should appeal and have this heard by a real jury.

Holocaust dis-believer apologizes

A Cathloic news agency reported that a British bishop apoloigized for his remarks toward the holocaust. The bishop was caught on a Swedish TV station saying that there was no eveidence that there were any Nazis gas chambers. He also mentioned that there was no such thing as concentration camps and that 300,000 people were not killed. The remarks that were made caused a worldwide outrage. Pope Benedict had lifted a 20-year-old excommunication decree he put on Williamson (After he apologized). Williamson said a very sincere apology "before God I apologize."

This one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. Saying the holocaust did not happen is the stupiest thing ever. So many people lost their lives to the Nazis and now some big shot bishop said it did not happen. This man should be fired from being a bishop.

Women says Ex Argo raped her in 2006

It was the drunkest this 23 year old women ever was. She had consumed 20 drinks and also had smoked Marijuana. She was dizzy and felt nauseous. Her and her friend after a night of partying were driven home by two Argos players. Her friend was driven to her house by defensive lineman Jonathan Brown and the women by offensive lineman Bernard Williams. The rest of the night was a large blur for the 23 year old who slipped in and out of consicouness while listening to her friend have sex with Brown. She passed out on the guest bed. She awoke the next morning and her pants were off, Williams was raping her. She toke off and tried to wake her friend but Williams follwed her and attemped to seduce her. Unable to awake her friend the 23 year old called a cab and then went home and called the police. On Aug. 31, 2006, Williams, a now retired offensive lineman turned himself in and was arrested for sexual harassment.

This is a ridiculous thing to do to a women. The thing that makes it worse is that Williams was an Argos player and people look up to him. Not only did he embarrass but he embarrassed the entire Argos organization. He should be put in prison for a long time.

Mother had no idea that son was being tortured

The mother of man who is mentally disabled had no idea that her son was being tortured in an attic. She had talked to him twice and he had given no hint he was being held in an attic of an apartment and tortured. The man had many injuries from being beat with things like a pipe and was forced to eat things like feces. It was discovered that the man was near death with many severe injuries and toxic blood. The 47 year old mother said she had been talking to her son and though he sounded tired, she had no idea of the torture. Her son had told her he had been beaten but was now staying with friends who were caring for him. The mother was relieved when she heard her son had been found and that the people who were hurting him were put in jail.

I think this is ridiculous what these people did to this man. The mother must have felt terrible when she discovered what was really happening to her son. This is a ridiculous, I mean torture that is just terrible and sick what is wrong with these people. I just hope the tortures go to jail for a long time and the man makes a full recovery.

Well known chimp mauls women

The well known Chimpanzee, Travis attacked his owner's friend yesterday. Charla Nash arrived at her friends house yesterday and unprovoked the Travis attacked and mauled her. The owner proceeded to protect her friend by wrestling the chimp down, but when 200 pound Travis would not stop the owner was forced to stab him. The owner proceeded to call the police. The police arrived and Travis attacked the police, they opened fired at him. The Chimp became scared and ran away, he died several minutes later. Nash is in the hospital in critical condition. This came as a surprise to the community, the chimp who appeared on many commercials was known as good natured.

I think that this was a 1 in 1000 incident. This very popular chimp was clearly suffering from the meds it had been taking for its anxiety. Obviously this is a terrible story but who could have predicted it. Hopefully the women who was attacked is fine.

Hamilton man hanging on for dear life

Police discovered a man very close to death yesterday investegating a disturbance. They were not called because of the torcher but because the nieghbours of the tortoers were complaining of banging, yelling and loud music. The police arrived and the alleged tortoers said they were training for the Ultimate Fighting Championship, the police left thinking they had solved the problem. They were called back nine hours later on a noise compliant, apparently nieghbours were hearing screams of terror. The police this time decided to investigate the appartment and they found the man who was severly beaten and very close to death. "In 32 years of policing, these are the most disturbing and disgusting acts I have ever seen," Hamilton police Supt. Bill Stewart said yesterday. Three people have been charged with forciable assault and confinement

I think this is one of the disturbing news story I have ever heard in my life. I do not understand the motive behind beating someone who is tied up and kidnapping them, these people must have been very twisted. I hope putting these people away will stop any more torcher acts.

Weed or Booze

Restaurant owner Ted Kindos must choose between weed or booze. Four years ago he asked a marijuana smoker to step away from his door. The man was not happy he sued Kindos, complain that his Marijuana was medical and that it helped dull his pain. They came to a settlement that he put up a sign saying weed smokers are welcome. The problem with that is another government agency asked him to take down the sign or he could lose his liquor license, because alcohol and a substance such as Marijuana can not be mixed or offered at the same place. Kindos is now in a very tough spot, either he lose his liquor license or be known as the guy who hates handicapped people. The case is being reviewed this summer.

I think this is ridiculous that Kindos was sued for asking a guy to move out the way of his door. I mean if he is blocking the door no matter what he is doing the owner of the place can kindly ask him to leave. As for the threat of losing his liqour license, terrible. Can the government make up there mind, do they want him to welcome Marijuana smokers or not. If so they can not say, "You listened to us, now we are going to take away your liqour license for doing what we told you". Our government is just really out of it right now.

Tragic Fire leaves one dead but saves another

Yesterday a town house went up in flames. A women managed to flee the place with her 12 year old son. Unfortunately her sister was trapped in the flaming building with her 20 month old baby. The order from the firefighters was to toss her baby out the window but they said that it was too late for her. This women could have lived but she decided to stay and gather clothes for her baby. This is a terrible tragedy for this family that the mother was not able to live.

I think that this women could have lived along with her baby if she had just left the second the house caught flames. I mean what is more important your life or some stupid clothes. Now she leaves her baby without a mother. This could have been avoided by thinking. In conclusion this was a terrible event with a large tragedy and people could learn from this

Subway Shooter turns himself in

Curt John a 21 year old suspect in last months Osgoode subway shooting turned himself in yesterday. John is accused of firing two shots into a crowded subway, both struck a 19 year old who was sent to hospital. John walked with his lawyer into the Toronto police station at approximately 11 last night. The 21 year old was charged with 12 offenses including the attempted murder last month. John was believed to be riding the subway with the 19 year old man when they got into a fight which led to shots being fired. John was also wanted on other charges that included carjacking and robbery. He was in court this morning

I think that it was very stupid of John to fire shots at this man in the public view. He also did the right thing by turning himself in because if he did not then he would have increased his possible jail time. John should be locked up for along time because of his numerous run ins with the law. I hope that the locking up of him will at least bring the crime rate down a little bit.

Angered, Unemployed dad slaughters family

Ervin Antonio Lupoe shot his wife, five children and himself yesterday after he and his wife were laid off from there jobs at an LA hospital. After Lupoe was fired he went to a co-worker for advice, the co-worker was quoted to say, "You should have blown your own brains out". Lupoe then returned to his home and brutually slaughtered his wife and five children. Before taking his own life he faxed a local television station. The note said "Why leave the children to a stranger?", "Oh lord, my God, is there no hope for a widow's son?". This horrible and tragic accurance has shown how much workers are worried about losing their jobs in this terrible economic time.

I think this is one of the most horrible and brutal story i have ever heard about. This man should have contained his anger and searched for legal and financial aid instead of taking his families life because he is afraid that they might have to live on the street or a foster home. This is also an example of the stress that workers have to deal with in their day to day life. Some people such as Lupoe believe that it is the end of line if they were to be fired or laid off in this terrible economic time

Obama helps NYC

Obama plans to get New York City back on track. His plan is to give 3.4 billion to the big apple over the next two years. The reason for this is to close NYC's budget gap by giving 1.6 billion to education and 1.8 billion more to Medicaid reimbursement. This would help this large city get out of the large debt they are currently in. It is estimated that New York's debt could rise to 11.3 billion over the next 3 years because of sinking revenues. It looks less probable with Obama's plan in place.

I think that Obama is doing the right thing here by helping New York out. The reason I think this is because he is funding the two most important things for them: education and Medicaid reimbursement. This is a great step in the right direction for both Obama and the city of NYC. I hope this funding will continue in the near future to other cities in need.

Two men condemned in Chinese milk scandal

A court in China condemned two men to death on Thursday. They also gave a life sentence to a dairy company owner. They received these brutal sentences as punishment for tainting milk, which has left 6 babies dead and another 300,000 ill. Investigations showed that these men watered down raw milk, then mixed it in with a banned substance called chemical melamine. This made the milk appear like it had more protein than normal milk. The community voiced there outrage. Zheng Shuzhen had lost her grandchild to the scandal had this to say "My granddaughter died. She (Tian) should die too, she should be shot,". She is referring to Tian Wenhua who used to run the company that tainted milk. Thankfully she received a life sentence.

In my opinion the sentences that were handed out to these to these individuals were were perfect. Someone who dedicates there life to making toxic food and drinks should be killed or at least receive a life sentence. This will hopefully put an end to the food recalls in China and hopefully no more people will be exposed to toxic food.

No sprinklers in seniors home fire

Muskoka Heights retirement home went up in smoke early yesterday. The blaze killed 2 seniors and left 8 other in critical condition. The worst part about this blaze is that the building, which was deemed fire safe had no sprinklers on the inside of it. In his defence the owner of the home, Dean Rushlow said "I have no idea what year the building was built, but ... because it is built many, many years ago, (sprinklers) weren't required back then". Rushlow, unfortunately was correct. Ontario's Fire Protection and Prevention Act for some reason says that "nursing homes less than four-storeys tall aren't required to install sprinklers". Ontario's fire Marshal, Pat Burke was very upset with the matter. He believes that all buildings, regardless of size should have sprinklers installed in the event of a fire. Hopefully Muskoka Heights learned its lesson from this very tragic event.

I think this is a very tragic event, that could have been prevented if the home had taken the necessary safety percussions. Even though the law states that buildings of this size are not required to have sprinklers, the owner should have used common sense and taken the steps required to protect the people he was being paid to look after. Finally I hope other buildings not just senior's homes put safety first, so they can prevent a tragic event such as this from occurring.
